About Michael Quin Heavener

Michael Heavener writes anecdotal and humorous poetry and stories as a way to keep himself grounded in his roots in Washington, and in his love of history, trains, and adventure. He’s been published in Purr and Yowl: An Anthology of Poetry About Cats, Raven Chronicles’ Humor, Humor, Humor, Crosswalk’s Praise Reports: Angels in my life, the Redmond (WA) Association of Spokenword anthology Here, There, and Everywhere, and his poems were also displayed as framed art in a regional art gallery's We Are Here exhibit.

Michael is serving his second term as a member of the Redmond (WA) Arts and Culture Commission, where he currently serves as vice chair. Professionally, he works as a desktop support specialist at the University of Washington Foster School of Business, assisting faculty and staff with computers, connectivity, and technology. Before that, he worked extensively in content and document management using Microsoft SharePoint.

As a daily newspaper photojournalist, Michael won first place in news-features of the Pacific Northwest Society of Professional Journalists Excellence in Journalism competition.

When he retires, Michael plans to publish a poetry chapbook exploring imagined “what might have been” backstories for minor Biblical figures briefly mentioned in scripture and then lost to history. He is also writing a historical fantasy novel set during the Age of Sail between 1759 and 1793. His website is Gallery of Imagination.
